Should I take live classes or on-demand classes?

This is usually the first question to answer, to narrow down your choices

Are you enrolling as one individual or as a team?

Individuals -- click here to continue the questions

This includes individuals reimbursed by their companies.

Teams -- continue the questions here:

Do you have someone on your team who can hold your team accountable to completing an on-demand course, completing the coursework, and making sure learnings are discussed and put into place?

Yes, I do have a project manager or other internal accountability partner

If you have someone on your team who can facilitate all of that project management and follow-up with your team, then on-demand classes should work fine if you're looking for a lower-budget solution!

See your choices of on-demand courses.

  • I do offer a low-risk solution where the $ spent on the on-demand course is applied as a discount toward the full live course, if you're still not sure if you want live or on-demand.
  • There is no team discount on the on-demand courses yet, though if it's 10 or more people, I can create a discount! Contact me.
  • The workbook can be shared/copied among a team, each person doesn't have to purchase it individually (the workbook is sold separately for most on-demand courses, but it is included in live courses).

If you think you may still want live courses, continue here.

No, and that sounds like a lot of work!

On-demand courses, in general, have a very low completion rate :(

Despite the email follow-ups I send to remind you to finish it!

So the live courses are good for:

  • Accountability
  • Making time on the calendar when someone expects them to show up for class
  • Having someone else (me) arrange all the discussions and ask about completed work.

However, it would still be helpful to have someone(s) on your team make sure the learnings make their way into your knowledge base, project management system, etc., once decisions are made for how you want to customize the information for your business.

The live courses have a ~30% discount for teams over 3 people; contact me for an invoice link that applies that discount to enroll all team members at once.

Live cohort courses are also good if your team wants to learn and discuss with people from other companies (depending on other class members who enroll).

Choose between the live courses.

What if the dates and times of the live cohort courses are not convenient for me or my team?

  1. I could create a private class/cohort for you or your team. I don't yet have prepared pricing and options for this, so contact me to ask about this option.
  2. Note that I am in the US Pacific time zone and may not be an awesome teacher in the middle of the night or before 7AM. If your time zone doesn't align well, the on-demand courses may be a better choice.

Have you ever purchased an on-demand course and never finished (or started) it?

Yes, I am an unfinished course collector

To get the most out of this course, you actually need to complete the videos AND the homework between the classes.

But we are all busy with 100 competing priorities, so if you need:

  • some accountability help
  • time reserved on your calendar not just for lecture time but also for the work time and discussions included in class
  • someone waiting for you to show up
  • someone to help you through roadblocks to gain momentum

The live courses may be the best choice. Continue the questions below about real-time discussions.

No, I finish most on-demand courses

Congrats on your motivation and systems for finishing classes on your own! On-demand courses may work for you - continue here to choose an on-demand course.

Do you want to discuss your choices and questions in real-time with peers and an instructor?

Yes, I want to make sure I'm going down the right path with my documentation work and hear what others are doing

If live courses are in your budget, they may be a good choice to chat with other professionals facing similar problems, and get feedback from an instructor. Continue the next question below about time zones.

No, I am not yet comfortable or in need of discussing my work

An on-demand course may work best with your needs. Continue to choosing an on-demand course.

Are you available for classes in the US Pacific time zone? Usually mornings, for 90-180 minutes

Yes, I can make that work

Great! Live courses could be an option for you.

No, I am busy or sleeping

The on-demand classes will probably be your best option.
